Su Praja means healthy offspring; ayurveda suggests a preparation for both parents before planning a baby. This should start at least 2 months before the conception. The whole human creation is a product of 2 cells, a sperm and an ovum and the harmony between them. The prakruty of the baby is determined from the dosha predominance of the parents in terms of the Vata-Pitta-Kapha balance. Parents should also have high Ojas (quality of body tissues) the qualities of which is transmitted to the children too.
Nearly 1 in 7 couples is infertile and infertility is soon to be a pandemic as per researches. Several factors play important roles in the health of the baby – quality of sperm and ovum, favorable uterine conditions for healthy implantation and nutrition. We are aware that women indulging in refined carbs, ghee, coconut are risk factors of PCOS and metabolic issues. Ayurveda suggests, sour and salty tastes, urud dal, sesame seeds and oil, dill seeds, horse gram to improve the reproductive health of feminine gender. While, sweet tastes, milk, ghee, coconut are recommended for men. Integrating the Ayurveda treatment for infertility together with IVF / IUI gives much better results in a clinical practice. The genetic factors and environmental factors play their roles in the pathology of most of the diseases. Ayurveda believe that a panchakarma process followed by Rasayana & Vajeekarana treatments can reduce the susceptibility of genetic predisposition of diseases. Failed implantation, pre-term delivery, and miscarriages are another major challenge faced by several couples. Ayurvedic preconception care can play a vital role not only in achieving the goal of a healthy progeny, but also in preventing congenital and genetic disorders and miscarriage.
